Went on a trip during start of the year, and this is a very long overdue post, but happen to see it on my friend blog, and decided to grab his contents & keep a piece of it for reference/memories in the future.
A fast 2012 and it is going to be end of the year in just a few days. Hope that next year will be a good year too. Words in PINK are my personal added comments. Photos are added by me to illustrate. XD
& woohoo! We survived. "Mayan Apocalypse" on 21/12/2012 was over. Just wanna marked it on my calendar to remind myself in history, that such a thing/event passed.

From my dear friend, Weijie's point of view. :)

1st Day of Vietnam Trip (12/1)
During the first day of the trip when we just board the plane, Jocelyn seat beside me. When the plane start up the engine and suddenly, the plane’s light flicker and make us both scare like hell. (rofl, we dont really take planes a lot of times, so its an interesting experience when we just saw the lights short quick flickers, thot smth bad gonna happen) Haha and the rest of the plane trip I was sleeping like a pig. When I reach the airport it was still OK for me until when I board the private car arrange by hostel to fetch us to HANOI Hostel. When I looking around road to Hanoi, I was a bit disappointed because it was not what I was expected but well cant complains much too.
When we reach the hostel, which was the time I got a shock of my life! My dslr just died off! (ya that was an unfortunate thing, it totally wasnt able to on at all & keep having an error. It is like bringing a camera out that doesnt work.) That make my two ball boil up! After that, my friend (TIN) cousin which is the hostel owner told us that we need to pay for the private car from hostel to airport as the promotion is either pick up or send off. BULL SHIT ! But I still somehow ok with it (12USD) as I wants a pleasant trip and do not wish to quarrel at the start of the trip.
(& my unfortunate experience was that I was so blur that I threw my luggage lock key in my luggage and locked it up. fantastic right?! I only realised it after quite a while at night I supposed to get stuffs out of my luggage. I was totally panicking that what if I could not open my luggage at all, then all my essentials stuff needa be bought. Luckily I managed to squeeze my fingers in to fumble the stuffs inside & get my key out. Super thankful and keep myself in mind that I shall not do the same mistake again. :( sighs)
We went on to find Jasmine dream food, PHO! We reached the place where the hostel person recommends that we can find good PHO there. When we reach there we order what other is having as we cant read the menu provided. Although it is not what jasmine wanted but it taste GOOD!
We visited place like Ho Chi Minh Museum, one pillar pagoda, temple of literature, water Puppet show and Quan Ann Su food center! What shocking is when we travelled on taxi from temple of literature to Quan Ann Su Food center which the taxi fare Jump FASTER than my heart beat. Got scam by 5 min of taxi ride cost us 150K dong. FML! That end our day ! (A taxi meter that cheats money by jumping meter quickly. Oh and I think while travelling to another place by another taxi, a bike just suddenly turned in our lane and brushed the taxi front. Super close man! Almost accident, but it was just slight brush, not sure got scratches or not. So lucky.)

2nd Day of Vietnam Trip (13/1)
During the second that of the trip, We woke up around 7am for breakfast at our hostel Roof Top Bar. The breakfast at Vietnam is almost the same for us everyday. Bread with egg and coffee or tea was the breakfast there. At around 8 am, a Van came fetch us at hostel to our journey to Mai Chang.
The trip consists of 7 people in total
4 of us, 1 Australia woman, 1 Korean woman and an interesting Japanese uncle! (yep! interesting people we have met, and all are friendly and easy to communicate with.)
(The place we stayed was really attap houses in a village, wooden made and got wifi at our "house", wifi was kinda rare only a few houses have that service.) Once we reach there, we had our lunch over there. Was quite tasty comparing to HaLong Bay food (You will see it later). After lunch and settling down, we continue to our cycling around the village. Of course I didn’t cycle so I sit with the tour guide on a Bike around the Village. (haha, wj never cycled, so shuang get free ride, but the road was quite bumpy and he almost fell of the bike, clinging to his dear life. Jasmine and the rest of us had damage too from sitting too long on the bicycles. Jasmine had repercussion, the most damage of us, having leg injury, numb or more of while walking legs was quite painful. Especially the next day when we walked a long distance plus climbing a 200+ steps up to another location.)
The interesting Japanese uncle is 64 Years old but while cycling around, he keep on telling us he is still young and just 64! Haha. And he cracks a lot of joke for us to laugh. Beer was his medicine. haaha
After the Biking quest, we basically do nothing (a little bit of shopping -at our stayed village-->& we were analyzing abt their "zha pian ji tuan", so funny they were selling the same thing where ever u walk to & trying to get tourists to buy, like so not worth a feeling we get. more of a place/village built for tourists as compared to the actual rundown village we visited) ) until about dinner time where we help to make some spring roll. After dinner……. WE DO NOTHING AGAIN! Totally Boring!
Again, we get scam again as the white Thailand dance is not included and we didn’t get to drink beer with the villager. At this point of the time, I lost 50% faith on Vietnam already.
We talk cock with each other and learn each other country life style till 11pm and END OF DAY 2!
(There was a lot of roosters and stray dogs lor at the place we stay. Wee hours also got rooster call and every few hours, likea noisy. We thought roosters only call in the morning when sun rises, but its either their body clock spoil, or it is a constant thing for them. The dogs were guarding the place i guess. We were chatting as we were not used to too slp early, the villagers & other visitors turned in quite early after dinner. Hope our chats didnt disturbed them too much)

-----------------------------------------------------------
3rd Day of Vietnam Trip (14/1)
During Day 2 sleeps, it was very very cold at that time due to the floor is make up of bamboo only where the cold air from 1st floor blew up to us. (it was very very cold man! my feet wearing socks still can feel the coldness seeming in despite the thick blanket which wasnt long enough for me. And it was hard to sleep as the floor was cold and hard) Never the less we still woke up at 8 am for our breakfast! As usually, the breakfast was Bread with egg and coffee or tea. Next we went on for our MOUNTAIN CLIMBING SECTION! Total steps for the mountain was around 1200 steps and was 300m high! That was one hell of a experience for me as I climb until there smoke coming out from my body haha. (yea wj was sweating and due to the cold air, we can see steaming radiating from his body. It was tiring climbing that 1k+ steps, the healthy ones climb super fast, while we were at our own pace taking rest at each few steps panting, and Jasmine had injured legs so she had a tough time climbing)
After that we went to visit the real MAI CHAU (the place where we stay in was hai something haha) where small kid was laughing at me for being fat and stuff. Explore around the village and we walk around 4 km back to the village for our lunch. That the end of our mai chau trip and we went back to Hanoi on our 4 hours bus right again!
When we reach Hanoi around 7 pm, we proceed on to Dong Xuan Night Market for some shopping and eating spree! I experience more of Vietnamese rudeness power over there where people push you away using their hand when block his way without saying excuse me or anything. Just PUSH HIS/HER WAY OUT! Damn piss off but only can suck my own thumb. Had a German sausage and a kebab for dinner that day and make a few key chain pillows for my friend. We also had some dessert at the road side store for 20k Dong which I think we got cheated but we decided to act normal and don’t think about it ahaha. Dao bao stir fried Corn back to hostel to eat.
That end my day 3 of my Vietnam trip!
-----------------------------------------------------------
4th day of Vietnam trips (15/1)
At fourth day, we proceed to my long awaited location, HaLong Bay which mean the descending dragon bay. We board a private bus where we travel 3.5 hours of ride to our location. Until now, I still remember our 1st tour guide name is called Tank. Quite knowledge able where he explain to us thing about Hanoi like there 4millions population in Hanoi but there 6 MILLIONS bike there WOO! And 70 percent of the people in Vietnam is farmer and that explain why we can see farm everywhere!
When we reach our location, it was a bit of raining and it was super duper cold. But I saw other tourist wearing slipper and berm there and coping the cold well. We were spit into different groups where we and another family of 4 from Denmark following another group. Now our new tour guide totally speak good English and even better than any of us! And after conformation, we proceed to a small boat where will bring us to our home for the night!
After we reach our boat, we were settle down with our room and stuff and we were going to have lunch. The lunch a kind of sad where the food was suckier than Singapore hawker center food but for a person like me who eat most anything that is edible, it was still OK. But for my dear friends, they were complaining and complaining but I can understand why they were complaining as we pay 68 USD PER PAX for the trip.
After lunch, we visited a cave where we walk around to see see look look. Nothing much inside but as usual, we would make ourselves super high and run walk around. Haha. After the cave, we proceed on to kayaking where all of us decided to skip due to the cold weather. So we went on back to our boat to have our dinner. Needless to say, it was not very tasty again ahaha.
But after the dinner where I think I enjoy the most was the squid fishing! When the tour guide shows us how did he fish the squid. It looked damn easy where he caught one less than 3 minutes! But that was the only squid caught that night ……. EMO!
After a long time of unsuccessful fishing, I decided to use the net of the ship to net the fish. I caught the first fish followed by jia hui and jasmine and lastly …. JOCELYN TAN! She was the most funniest fisher I saw in my life time where she use confuse by us on the timing to scoop up the fish! In the end, she used around 30 minutes to catch one! CONGRAT! After a long day of walking and fishing, we went to bed! END OF DAY 4! (haha, paiseh to everyone though, it was drizzling and feeling not a fruitful day as it was quite boring, everyone has to wait for me to catch a fish out in the cold & drizzle.. We threw back the lil'fishes back in the sea.)
-----------------------------------------------------------
5th day of our Vietnam trip (16/1)
We woke up at around 6 am for the sunrise as the tour guide said that that was one of the options we could have. But waking at that time, we were shock that the mist is too thick that the sunrise was block by the mist. Another disappointed part of Vietnam.
We decided to believe in the tour guide one more time and we pay each pax 100k dong to visit the cave and feeding the monkey on the mountain. When we reached the location, we were change to a rowing boat as motar boat is not allowed. When we visited the mountain around, its was very quiet and peaceful but when they started rowing closer to the mountain and starting to wait for the monkey to appear, the boat woman told us that THE MONKEY WAS SLEEPING SO WE CANT FEED THE MONKEY! Totally WHAT THE FOOK FOR US SIA! There goes our 100k worth of dong ….. hhaaha .(the rowing boat was scary though! we had about 7 people on a small boat with life jackets, and it was too small to take such a weight. While rocking and sailing to our distination, Jas & I were afraid that it may sink. Haha, Funny.. & no monkey were seen such a disappointment.)
After we went back to our boat, we had our breakfast and that was the best breakfast I had in the whole Vietnam trip (at least something good huh - Western bfast LOL guess their own food was a bit not so tasty through the cruise trip). Was bread with egg and bacon. Then we were asked to check out our room and we were separate from the group as they going for 3d 2 N where we would be heading back to mainland.
After we reached the mainland, we went for our lunch where we walked 20 minutes to our location. I shall not explain in detail what happen as the tour guide was totally a bitch! (A lot of other tourists were backpackers & had all their stuffs carrying for that 30mins walking a very long distance due to our shuttle bus to fetch us caught in a jam.... =.= they had a argument with the tour guide.. but he was crapping his way through etc..)
Dinner - Quan An Ngon :)
We went back to our hostel and we head out immediately as it was our last night at Vietnam. We went on to buy our Crumpler(good to haggle!) and Coffee(G7!!) at old quarter. We brought some KFC and hail a cab to Quan Ann Su (Quan An Ngon - recommended cheap and tasty! Yummy) where we visited before at the first day for our final Dinner. Had a lot of food over there and each person cost less than 10 dollar Singapore dollar if I didn’t remember wrong. After that we cab back to our hostel and went up to the bar counter to eat our KFC and drink tea/coffee.
---------------------------------------------
6th day (17/1)
Our last day at Hanoi, and we went to ate breakfast at Dong Xuan Market. Our long awaited Pho!
And home sweet home.
The End. :)Labels: Vietnam Hanoi 2012
